Hope they keep a good watch on it so nobody embezzles it. People are probably drooling and planning for it now.

What a generous man with a love for this cause.

It is a wondrful thing that he did.  To compare him to Havilah Beardsley or Pierre Moran or Dr. Miles is just wrong.  I hope that he does not go down in history that way.  You are just so giddy about the huge figure that you spoke without thinking about what you were saying!  Mr McCown think again!  The people that you mention as being great men and pioneers of Elkhart were ones who put people to work and put this city on the map.  They were not responsible for vast give-aways to people who could not or would not work for themselves!

I  KNEW GUN WHENWE WERE YOUTHS--I FRESH OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL AND HE A SENIOR. WE PLAYED A LOT OF CHESS AFTER THE POKER GAMES WE HAD ON A REGULAR BASIS. I REMEMBER GOING TO THE "CINEMA ONE" MOVIE THEATRE (OVER 21 ONLY)  WHEN WE WERE 17&18  TO SEE "DELIVERANCE"--LOL. IN JANUARY 1973 WE REACHED AN AGREEMENT ON MY PURCHASE OF HIS DEAD FATHERS 1962 JAGUAR XKE (CHEAPLY -WITH A SECRET AGREEMENT FOR HIM TO BUY IT BACK LATER) SO HIS MOTHER WOULD NOT SELL IT BEFORE HE GAINED TITLE TO IT --SHE WAS SCARED FOR HIM TO DRIVE IT, BUT ALAS I BROKE MY LEG AND COULD NOT AFFORD TO BUY IT WHILE OFF WORK. WE LOST CONTACT WITH EACH OTHER WHILE WE BOTH ATTENDED COLLEGE AND NEVER DID GET BACK IN TOUCH AFTERWARDS. I HAVE OFTEN WONDERED WHAT BECAME OF HIM. THANKS FOR GOOD TIMES GUNNY, R.I.P.
