Resignut, you are a grinch!  No one I know walked out into traffic lanes when traffic was moving.  If you don't want to give to a worthy cause that way just pass them by!  What a way to kill a great fund raising method.  Call it an unsafe hazard.  I used to stand out in freezing weather to ring a bell for the Salvation Army.  I suppose that was unsafe too!  If you don't want to give just don't!  Mr. Ritenour, it doesn't make it wrong either..   Most people give out of the goodness of their hearts, not from guilt.  Do YOU feel guilty if you don't give?

It's not so much so about these people that straddle the lanes asking for donations and a few don't pay attention when stepping away from donating vehicles as well as motorists. It's more about the idiot motorists that feel compelled to stop green light traffic just so they can throw a dollar in a bucket. That is the main problem with this method of asking for donations or,in some cases, panhandling. If you want to donate, then do so when traffic is stopped. Don't jeopardize the safety of yourself and others as well as clog up traffic just so you can get that warm fuzzy feeling of donating and maybe a roll of Life Savers.

'It,' whoever you are ---- intersections where there is vehicular traffic, are NOT the place for beggars, whether it is for a good cause or not.   As we have suggested before, if these organizations want to beg for money, they can request permission from stores to stand in front of them where they aren't blocking traffic and causing backups for vehicles.   To be forced into some traffic lane against one's wishes like some kind of police search when one is trying to go somewhere in their vehicle is a bunch of bull droppings.

In my humble opinion? Yes! This spate of street begging should have been curtailed years ago.
Not because of the discomfort of being assailed by these persons at stoplights and stop signs...but because of the risks that are incurred when these do-gooders stand in a busy intersection during rush hour.

And ordinance banning this activity should have been in place years ago.

It is very fortunate that none of these folks have been injured, or worse, by stupid drivers.
