Put up a toll gate Jack.  You could man it and wear your safety patrol belt.

Goshen is also asking for money for pools and music improvements.  Prioritize approved projects and complete as funds and donations become available without taking more from the hard working financially burdened taxpayer.

In regards to sidewalks, parents can drive their children to school privately or in a car pool if they are concerned about safety.

Everyone walking on sidewalks is what they are MADE FOR. Music and swimming lessons are not what schools were made for.

So then why did the city turn down the request to pay only half of what it would normally cost the city to build a sidewalk?  If they could build these walks for 1/2 price it seems to me that would be financially responsible.

If your wife went to the store and bought an $800 pair of shoes for half off when you were struggling to fill your gas tank, would that be financially responsible?

JackN---The same thing I and many other parents did. Get a job that coordinates with the kids needs. For a few years, in order to not have most of my paycheck pay for babysitters for 3 kids, my husband worked days and I worked graveyard shift. That allowed my husband and I time to take care of OUR KIDS needs FIRST without any government handouts or expecting others to do what was our job responsibility as their parents.

A sidewalk is as basic of public infrastructure as there is.  Amazing that people would rather drive their kids to school than have them walk if it is less than a 1/2 mile...unless they are little K or 1st graders and amazing they can't get a sidewalk from the government.

Maybe the massively endowed Community Foundation could take over....It's dangerous as heck with the no shoulder or sidewalk roads the kids have to walk down in the winter.

Government these days does not want to pay for anything.  Keep heading the direction we are with our society and we end up here at some point:

Can someone please explain to me how a sidewalk is a government handout?

9 hours later and none of the anti-everything folks has an answer.  Let's try again, how does building a sidewalk constitute a government handout?  Come on PK, come on Chuckles, I'm calling you guys out.  Answer the question you pansies.

I never said it was a handout, genius. Go read my posts. Re-read them, even. If you still don't understand, let me borrow some of your crayons and I'll try to draw you a picture.

JackN---You really do give me a laugh. People do have other things to do besides be on the computer all day. In my case, it is called a job and a life.

I did not say a sidewalk was a government hand out. You need to read people's posts correctly as CharlesUFarley stated.

You asked why Goshen turned down the chance to pay half the cost of the sidewalks. Perhaps they realized there was not enough money at this time, even at half the price. They probably prioritized projects needed/requested and this one did not get high on the list if on the list at all.  Just because one requests/demands something from a legislative body does not mean they will have it approved.

One must make a professional, valid presentation with accurate and true facts and figures for the project they want approved. The more one argues and is unprofessional, the more one is likely to lose the debate and not get approval.
