Thank you all for your kind words and memories of my father. My father was truly an amazing individual. He had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed playing jokes on his family, especially during holidays and birthdays. Before becoming ill, he enjoyed baking cakes and cookies. He also loved wood working and making yard ornaments. My father never wanted to be a bother to anyone. He refused filing for disability for the knee injuries he received during his 110 jumps out of an airplane. (He said that someone else needed the money more than he did.) When in the hospital, he would not push the nurses button for anything, even when he had difficulty breathing or was in pain. He told us that the nurses were busy so we’d wait until they came in the room. Mom told us that in the 57 years she cooked for my father, he not once complained about the meal. My father often hid notes, leading his family on scavenger hunts. He loved to see his family smile and to hear their laughter. The day my father passed, my mother found a sealed envelope marked “Open when I am gone”. In the letter he told my mother that he fell in love with her the first time they met and that he loved her with all his heart and always will. He went on to tell her that he wanted her to enjoy life. The letter is treasured by all of us, as it is truly a representation of the man we proudly call husband, father, and poppy. It’s these memories that ease the pain of losing my father.

I lived at Sterling and Lusher when Daniel was a 'young' boy and remember him and his sisters very well. In fact, I wrote to Donna for many years before her death. Am sorry to hear of Danny's passing. Phyllis (Hapner) Overhulser, Union

I was the first person to sign the guest book, however, I see it hasn't been entered for some reason. I do wish to convey sincere condolences from my wife, Nancy, and myself to Dan's wife and daughters as well as all the family members. I grew up with Daniel as I lived a couple of blocks from his parent's home in the 1940s. We had many good times together with other neighborhood kids, too. After moving to California, and later to Wyoming, I would visit Daniel whenever we would get back to Elkhart. He was a good friend and family man. I believe he is with the Lord now.

Dan was a neighbor of a couple blocks away, and as kids, he was part of our group. He was not a troubled kid as so many of us were, but always friendly, and had a sense of humor. I am so glad he made his choice to trust Jesus Christ as his Savior, and trust our God of comfort will bring peace to those he loved.
