CHARLOTTE, N.C. - James Donald Bergin, 84, of Charlotte, passed away Monday, Dec. 24, 2012.

He was born Sept. 1, 1928, in Rochester, N.Y., a son of the late James A. and Mary Powers Bergin.

Mr. Bergin was a graduate of St. Bonaventure University and a Korean War veteran, having attained the rank of captain in the U.S. Marine Corps.

His family includes his wife, Sandra Pletcher Bergin, a native of Elkhart, Ind.; six children, Gail Jones, Sue Bernstein, J.P. Bergin, Chris Bergin, Erin Finney and Sandy Moore; two stepsons, G. Alex O'Hara and Jeffrey O'Hara; as well as his sister, Doris Snyder.

His first wife, Connie Bergin, and his brother, the Honorable Eugene Bergin, preceded him in death.

A service with full military honors was at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, in National Cemetery in Salisbury.
