CASSOPOLIS, Mich. - James L. "Jim" Johnson, 71, of Cassopolis, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac.
He was born July 18, 1941, in Briceville, Tenn., to Ulyess and Annie (Jefferies) Johnson.
On Nov. 2, 1962, he married Geneva (Miracle) Johnson.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Michael Johnson and William (Tammy) Johnson, both of Cassopolis; three daughters, Anna (George) Tores, Gloria (Pat) O'Connor and Sheila Bradshaw, all of Elkhart, Ind.; brother Chester (Patsy) Johnson of Elkhart; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Three of his grandchildren, Christopher Johnson of Edwardsburg, and David Johnson and Lacy Johnson, both of Elkhart, were raised by Jim as his own children.
He will be missed by all his family, especially his loving wife of 50 years whom he celebrated with in November 2012.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bob Johnson.
Jim was employed as a test driver for more than 15 years at Four Winds International prior to his retirement in 2000.
He often enjoyed fishing, playing billiards, watching Western movies, reading his Bible and, most of all, spending time with his family.
The family will receive friends two hours prior to the 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, funeral service to celebrate his life and all the joy that he has given to everyone he has ever known at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Pastor Gary Sheets will officiate. Cremation will take place at Altera Cremation Services.
