FREMONT - June Champion, 92, of Fremont, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at Lakeland Nursing Center, Angola.
She was born July 27, 1920, to Maurice and Gladys (Michael) Cooper in Scott Township in Steuben County.
She married Victor R. Champion on Dec. 30, 1939, in Angola. He died Oct. 7, 1998.
June worked on the family farm for many years and later worked as a clerk for Colby Drug Store in Fremont for 30 years.
She graduated from Scott Center High School in 1938. Victor and June lived in Scott Township after getting married and later lived on the family farm near Jones Chapel in Steuben County. They then moved to Wall Lake, Orland. June eventually moved back to Fremont in 2001.
She attended Fremont United Methodist Church and was a member of Jones Chapel Ladies Aide.
Her hobbies included sewing and cooking.
Survivors include one son, Jerry (Patty) Champion of Coldwater Lake, Coldwater, Mich.; daughter Janice (Doug) Coffman of Elkhart; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother Wendell Cooper of Fremont; and daughter-in-law Penney Russell of Coldwater.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor R. Champion; son Michael Champion; her parents, Maurice and Gladys Cooper; sister Flora Alice Clark; and niece Karen Sue Clark.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Darin Hendry officiating.
Burial is in Lakeside Cemetery, Fremont.
