ELKHART - Rene A. "Ray" Dalpe, 89, of Elkhart, passed away at 9:41 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at Miller's Manor in Wakarusa.
He was born Oct. 4, 1923, in Springfield, Mass., to Rene and Laura (Morneau) Dalpe. On April 26, 1947, in Washington, D.C., he married Stella Kuusisto.
She survives along with two daughters, Cynthia (Nelson) Coble of Elkhart and Carol Dalpe of Brush, Colo.; three grandchildren, Andrew, Brandon and Leanna; and a brother, Gerald (Linda) Dalpe of South Windsor, Conn.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Norman; and a son-in-law, Dwayne Melvin.
Ray graduated from Commerce High School in Springfield and attended Northeastern University. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1943 till his discharge in 1947. Ray then attended George Washington University, where he studied accounting. He was a member of Northside Church of the Nazarene, former member of Elkhart Moose Lodge 599 and past president of Elkhart County Life Underwriters Association. He retired self-employed as a general insurance agent and broker.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home and from 2 to 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at Northside Church of the Nazarene. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at the church. Pastor Tim Sheets will preside and cremation will follow. Burial will be at a later date in Prairie Street Cemetery with full military honors.
Memorial contributions may be given to the church or the charity of the donor's choice.
