ELKHART - Joyce E. Vanderhegghen, 78, of Elkhart, died at 4:40 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at Elkhart General Hospital.
Joyce was born July 17, 1934, in Watford, Hertfordshire, England. She came to the U.S. in 1946 with her mother and sister Pat. Her father, George Jones, passed away at the age of 40 during the London Blitz of World War II.
Joyce graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1952. She worked at the Indiana Toll Road District office, University of Notre Dame, Saint Mary's College and Skyline Corp., where she was employed for 23 years as a private secretary to the CEO.
She married Andrew Vanderhegghen on Aug. 17, 1968. He survives.
Her mother, Irene Tomczak, passed away May 18, 1996. Her son, Scott B. Doty, passed on Oct. 14, 1986, and son Marc Doty passed on June 11, 1986. Her sister, Pat Ford, passed on June 28, 2011.
Joyce wished there to be no viewing.
Cremation will be at Elkhart Cremation Services.
