Cathy D. Albert

QUEEN CREEK, Ariz. - Cathy D. (Sissom) Albert, of Queen Creek, died in her home at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, of renal failure.

Cathy was born Dec. 30, 1953, in Whitwell, Tenn., to the Rev. Buford and Gladys Sissom.

She grew up in Elkhart, Ind., graduating from Jimtown High School in 1972. Cathy lived much of her life in northwest Illinois before moving to Arizona in 2008.

On Aug. 21, 1976, Cathy married John Albert.

Survivors include her husband; son Christopher P. (Nichole) Carithers of Elkhart; grandchildren Nicholas, Aiden and Bella, all of Elkhart; niece Amanda (Scott) Scheel; nephew Nathan (Angie) Lienhart; great-nephew and great-niece, Andrew and Kaitlyn Scheel, all of Indianapolis; stepdaughter Sonya (Steve) Stanage; stepgrandsons Tim and Ben Selner; great-stepgrandchildren McKynzie and Ethan, all of Elkhart; and siblings Charlotte Haggard, Beverley (Steve Kash) Riley, Nancy (Melvin) Frost, Debra (Ken) Lienhart, John (Linda) Sissom and Keith Sissom, all of Elkhart, and Joyce Gordy of Wakarusa, Ind.

Cathy was preceded in death by her parents; siblings Peggy Fults, Dorothy Marie Sissom and Leon Sissom; stepson Johnny Albert; and stepgranddaughter Erica (Ervin) Beachy.

Cathy was a true fighter and lived her life for Chris, Nichole and her grandkids. Cathy's smile, laugh and sense of humor will be truly missed by all. Through every obstacle life presented, Cathy always managed to laugh.

A memorial service is pending.

The family wishes to extend a special thank-you to nurses Erin and Patty and social worker Jill.

Although flowers and cards will be treasured, donations can be made to Americare Hospice and Palliative Care, Victory Home Care, The National Kidney Foundation or Mayo Clinic of Arizona for cancer research.

We lost daddy 3 years ago but we are atill blessed to have our mom with us. We know that Cathy is up there celebrating with your mom and dad now and is in no more pain.
