Robert J. Huffman

ELKHART - Robert J. "Bob" Huffman, 76, of Elkhart, passed away Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 15, 2013, at Hubbard Hill Estates after an extended illness.

Robert was born July 29, 1936, in Elkhart to the late Robert and Gertrude (Anderson) Huffman. Robert married Sharon L. Stewart Dec. 29, 1972, in Goshen. Sharon passed away on June 22, 2004, in Elkhart.

Surviving are a daughter, Kara (Michael) Koons of Granger; sons Thomas Stewart, Rob Stewart and Steve Stewart, all of Elkhart; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brothers Richard (Jenny) Huffman and Roy Huffman; sisters Barbara Waterman, Mary (Bob) Allen, Connie Christy and Vickie Ide; and his cousin, Joe Huffman.

A brother, Jack Huffman, and sisters Bonnie Huffman and Betty Vincent preceded Bob in death.

Robert worked for the Waste Water Treatment plant with the City of Elkhart for 43 years. He was a member of the Elkhart Moose Lodge 599 and a life member of DAV Chapter 19. Bob proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1961 until his honorable discharge in 1965. Bob was a huge John Wayne fan and enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Friends may call for one hour prior to the 11 a.m. service Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, to celebrate Bob's life at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Pastor Brad Reimer will officiate. Burial will follow at Prairie Street Cemetery, where military honors will be rendered by the U.S. Army Funeral Honor Guard and DAV Chapter 19.
