OSCEOLA - Herbert Elva Solliday, 85, of Osceola, passed away at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, in his home, with family present.
He was born on Sept. 11, 1927, in Worthington to Edward and Eva Solliday.
Herbert leaves behind his wife, Kaye (Holt) Solliday. They were married on June 1, 1961, in St. Joseph County.
His two children, Scott Solliday and Wanda Solliday of Osceola, and his brother, James Solliday of Mishawaka, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his granddaughter, Misty (Kirk) Youell and great-grandson Kegan Youell, both of Elkhart; his grandson, Brandon Leighton; two sisters, Clara Sue (Larry) Coddens of South Bend and Wanda (Lamar) Wallin of Elkhart; a brother, Edward (Helen) Solliday of Mishawaka; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at Chapel Hill Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at Chapel Hill Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Herbert was a World War II veteran. For 18 years he was employed by Studebaker, before retiring from Vincent-Bach as a bell maker.
He belonged to Mishawaka Masonic Lodge 130 Freemason and Star Light Chapter 181 OES of Elkhart. He also was a past member of the Osceola Town Board and was a member of Osceola UMC.
Herbert was a kind person who saw the best in everyone he met and was always willing to lend a stranger a helping hand. He enjoyed spending time with his family, camping trips, hunting and fishing.
