Phyllis L. Crabtree

Feb. 22, 1927 - Feb. 11, 2013

ELKHART - Phyllis Louise Crabtree, 85, residing in Elkhart, passed away Monday morning, Feb. 11, 2013, at Center for Hospice Care Elkhart.

Phyllis was born Feb. 22, 1927, in Columbus, Ohio, to the late Edward A. and Elizabeth (Crumrine) James.

In addition to her parents, brother Edward A. James and sisters Marilyn Finnerty and Harriett Wallace preceded her in death.

She married Harold Crabtree Sept. 2, 1947, in Maysville, Ky.

He survives as well as her daughter, Pamela (Larry "Mike") Stevens of Elkhart; four grandchildren, Trisha Stevens, Michael (Mandi) Stevens, Stephanie Stevens and Andrew Stevens, all of Elkhart; four great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Virginia Botley, Joan Anderson and Vivian Murphy, all of Columbus.

Phyllis worked as a supervisor for Nationwide Insurance Company for 40 years. Phyllis was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of First Brethren Church of Elkhart. She enjoyed crocheting, playing bingo and spending time with family.

Services to celebrate the life of Phyllis will begin at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at First Brethren Church, 24197 CR 16, Elkhart. Her son-in-law, Larry "Mike" Stevens, will officiate. Friends may visit with the family beginning at 11 a.m. at the church.

Burial and graveside services, officiated by Pastor Dan Herendeen, will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be made to The Hospice Foundation, 4220 Edison Lakes Pkwy, Ste. 210, Mishawaka, IN 46545.

Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, is assisting the family with arrangements.
