Betty J. Ivory

ELKHART - Betty Jean Ivory, 77, residing in Elkhart, was called home on Sunday morning, Feb. 10, 2013, surrounded by her loving family, at Center for Hospice Care Elkhart, following an extended illness.

She was born Aug. 26, 1935, in Elkhart to the union of the late Connie Sr. and Ruth A. Ivory.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Kerry "Cat" Ivory; granddaughter Lindsey Marie Ivory; brothers Dale and Connie Ivory Jr.; and sisters Coryliss M. Spears and Inez Rogers.

She graduated from Elkhart High School and retired from Crown International.

Surviving are three sons, John J. "JJ" Ivory of Elkhart and Jeffrey Lynn Ivory and Michael A. Ivory, both of Indianapolis; daughter Annette Ivory of Indianapolis; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Betty Jean enjoyed God's gift of sharing great interest in her family, grandchildren and reading. She devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to her grandchildren and her mother until she passed away. She was a member of Canaan Baptist Church until her illness prohibited her attendance.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Betty Jean Ivory will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at Agape Missionary Baptist Church, 248 W. Wolf Ave., Elkhart. The Rev. Dr. Dannell Brown will officiate. Viewing will start at 11 a.m. until time of service.

Burial and graveside services will follow at Prairie Street Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Billings Funeral Home, Elkhart.
