WAKARUSA - Mabel Charlotte "Toots" Lechlitner, 92, passed away early Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at Miller's Merry Manor, Wakarusa.
Toots was born June 5, 1920, in Wakarusa to Alexander and Ida (Beehler) Schweisberger.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Gladys, Stella, Evelyn and Dorothy; three brothers, Devon, Adam and Kenneth; and her beloved German Shepherd, Sparky.
On April 1, 1945, at Zion United Church of Christ, Wakarusa, she married Elmer L. Lechlitner. He also preceded her in death April 25, 1979. She is now reunited with her husband Elmer, whom she dearly missed.
Surviving is a daughter, Cheryl Lynn (Herman N.) Schellenberg of Grandville, Mich.; a son, Craig L. (Lori) Lechlitner of Mishawaka; three grandchildren, Amanda Lechlitner of Val Rico, Fla., Kyle Lechlitner of Mishawaka and Melissa Lechlitner of Mishawaka; and a sister, Delores Cook of Green Castle.
Toots was a 1938 graduate of Madison High School. She worked in food services for Penn Harris Madison School Corp. for 25 years. She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ and Olive Mennonite Church, both in Wakarusa.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th St., Mishawaka, where funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Pastor Dale Speckman will officiate.
Private burial will be in Olive Cemetery West, Elkhart.
The family would like to thank the staff at Miller's Merry Manor for all of their care and kindness, not only to Toots but to her family as well.
