Virginia J. Pardee

ELKHART - Virginia Jane Bacon Pardee, 90, of Elkhart, passed to her rest Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, at Elkhart General Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born Aug. 27, 1922, in Edwardsburg, Mich., the daughter of David Cyrus and Henrietta (Bausman) Bacon on the family farm. She grew up in the Edwardsburg area and graduated from Western Michigan University with a degree in home economics. She taught this subject and was also a consumers home service agent.

Virginia's life took her from Edwardsburg, to Kalamazoo, Mich., to Owosso, Mich., before moving to the Little Rock, Ark., area. In her retirement, she and her husband moved to Elkhart to be near their daughter, Prudence, and family.

Virginia was married July 20, 1957, at Edwardsburg Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Franklin Ogle to her husband, Theodore Charles Pardee. He passed away June 23, 1991.

She is survived by her daughter, 'Prudy' (Dennis) Holzhausen of Elkhart; two grandchildren, Amy Holzhausen of Austin, Texas, and Alyse Vordermark of Sherwood, Ore.; and two great-grandchildren, Emerson and Ava Vordermark of Sherwood. There is a sister surviving, Bernice Olthuis of Wyomissing, Pa.

Family who have passed away were her parents; her husband, Ted; and a sister, Eleanor Edmondson.

There will be a graveside service at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at Oak Hill Cemetery, Owosso, where all may gather from 12:30 to 1 p.m.

Virginia was a member of Beta Sigma Phi in Owosso and St. John's United Church of Christ in Elkhart. Memorial donations in her honor may be directed to the Edwardsburg Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 4, Edwardsburg, MI 49112-0004.
