GOSHEN - Agda Farber, 92, died Friday morning, Feb. 22, 2013, at Greencroft Goshen Health Care after a brief decline in health.
She was born July 3, 1920, in Goshen to Chester and Agda (Strom) Mitchell.
On Dec. 15, 1945, she married Ned L. Farber in Goshen. He died on Nov. 23, 2006.
Survivors include three nieces, Jane (Dr. Steven) West of Columbus, Martha Farber of Sturgis, Mich., and Cathy (Bill) Harris of Munster; three nephews, Junior (Mary) Farber of LaGrange, Edward (Linda) Mitchell of Cassopolis, Mich., and David (Jane) Troup of Goshen; and a brother, Paul (Margie) Mitchell of Fort Myers, Fla.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert C. Mitchell; and a sister, Margaret Troup.
A lifelong area resident, Mrs. Farber retired in 1982 after working for 15 years in the bookkeeping department for First Federal Savings & Loan and later with Tower Savings & Loan. In her earlier years she operated the Beauty Nook in the Spohn Building and The Beauty Shop in the Bowser-Kalb Building.
She was a 1938 graduate of Goshen High School and Worter Beauty College, Fort Wayne. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Ladies 18 Hole League at Maplecrest Country Club. Agda continued her interest and membership in her Ladies Bridge Club, actively playing until late autumn 2012.
She and her husband, Ned, were very active in community philanthropic efforts. They were longtime benefactors of the Boys and Girls Club, Bashor Children's Home, Goshen Healthcare Foundation, Greencroft Foundation and many other local agencies.
Friends may visit for one hour prior to the 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, funeral service at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Pastoral assistant Pam Kling, First United Methodist Church, and Greencroft chaplain Dee Swartz will officiate. Burial will follow in Violett Cemetery.
