He was born May 16, 1927, in Goshen to Homer R. and Vera J. (Weister) Miller.
He married Jeanette D. Miller in Goshen on May 25, 1947.
She survives along with a daughter, Catherine (Charles) Hayes of Marshall, Mich.; two sons, Randy James (Vicki) Miller of Carollton, Ohio, and Bruce R. (Pamela) Miller of Richmond, Va.; seven grandchildren, Traci, Tiffany, Sarah, Kevin, Angela, Brandon and David; two great-grandchildren, David and Roslyn; a brother, Max M. (Marge) Miller of Nappanee; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Walter L. Miller.
A 1945 Goshen High School graduate, Cecil joined the U.S. Navy upon graduation. He did his training at Great Lakes and was sent to Japan, where he was stationed at Yokosuka Bay. After the war he returned to Goshen and worked a few years before buying a Dairy Queen in Bremen, which he owned and operated for more than five years before selling it and returning to Goshen.
After 30 years he retired from Bendix Corporation and he and his wife spent the next 25 years traveling around the country in an RV. Rounding out his travels was a trip to France, England and Scotland, visiting World War II landmarks. At the age of 74 Cecil was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, which curtailed traveling.
He was a member of Plymouth United Church of Christ and the VFW Post 985, where he served many years on the honor guard.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. The Goshen Honor Guard will provide military honors. Pastor Linda Sue Hewitt, Plymouth United Church of Christ, and Gary Miller, his nephew, will officiate. Cremation will take place. Burial will be at a later date in Violett Cemetery.
