ELKHART - Herbert Dean Ummel, 83, of Elkhart, died at 3:45 p.m. Friday, April 26, 2013, at Golden Living Center, Elkhart.
He was born July 28, 1929, in Elkhart County to Edward and Edith (Anglemyer) Ummel.
He married Muriel (Erb) Ummel on Dec. 20, 1958.
Surviving are his wife, Muriel; daughters Kendra (Mike) Thomas of Fort Wayne, Karen (Lawrence) Cicotte of Muncie and Kristen (Alan) Steiner of Leo; grandchildren Joel and Luke Steiner, Lauren Buschbacher and Gabriel and Janay Cicotte; great-grandchild Mary Buschbacher; brother Eldon Ummel of Syracuse; and sisters Joan Kirkham of Greencastle, Lois Knouff of Larwill and Phyllis Swick of Columbia City.
Preceding him in death are a sister, Carol Hines and brothers Robert, Richard, Stanley and Max Ummel.
Herb was a dairy supervisor and a member of Bethel Missionary Church. He attended Purdue University, was a member of the Elkhart County Dairy Association for more than 50 years and was a coach for the Elkhart County 4-H Dairy Judging Team from 1957-81.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret-Lienhart Funeral Home, 117 W. Waterford St., Wakarusa, and for one hour prior to the 10 a.m. service Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at Bethel Missionary Church, 63503 C.R. 7, Goshen. Pastors Greg Morris and Joel Gentz will officiate. Burial will be in Yellow Creek Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Bethel Missionary Church or Elkhart County 4-H Dairy Club.
