OLDSMAR, Fla. - Neil Allen Felder, 61, of Oldsmar, passed away Sunday, June 2, 2013, in Naples.
Neil was born June 8, 1951, in Elkhart, Ind., to Earnest Felder and Marion Schooley Felder.
Neil enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 17. After training, he was stationed at Fort Rucker, Ala., until he was 18 years old and then was sent to Vietnam, where he served as a helicopter crewman before becoming an MP.
When Neil returned stateside, he continued with the MPs, first at Fort Snelling, Minn., and Selfridge Air Force Base, Mich., before being sent to Sieglesbach, Germany. His military career continued with duty assignments at Fort McClellan, Ala.; a return to Sieglesbach; Fort Hood, Texas; and his final assignment back at Fort McClellan.
After his retirement from the U.S. Army as a sergeant 1st class, he moved to Oldsmar and went to work for the U.S. Postal Service, where he worked until he retired in 2007.
Neil spent his retirement years traveling, visiting family and spending time with his daughters, grandchildren and great-granddaughters.
Neil was preceded in death by his father, Earnest Felder; his mother, Marion Schooley Felder Spake; and brothers Michael Felder and Roger Felder.
Neil is survived by his daughters, Nicole Felder Jackmack (Jeff) of Naples and Megan Felder Moses (Michael) of Ohatchee, Ala.; grandchildren NaTasha Turley Lillebo (Jonathan), Nicholas Holifield, Alexander Holifield and Evan, Kaylee and Eric Moses; great-granddaughters Anna, Madison and Emma Lillebo; brothers Ernie Felder of Warner, Okla., and Edward Felder of Au Gres, Mich.; aunts Audrey Slater of Warner and Ruth Felder of Shipshewana, Ind.; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life and internment with full military honors will be in Michigan at a later date.
