July 22, 1924 - March 1, 2013
DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. - Marilyn C. (Johnson) Teller, 89, died March 1, 2013.
Marilyn was born at Elkhart (Ind.) General Hospital on July 22, 1924, to Herbert John and Lorene W. Johnson.
She was baptized and confirmed, and married Jack A. Teller on May 1, 1954, at Augustana Lutheran Church in Elkhart. He is deceased.
She graduated from Elkhart High School and then Augustana School of Nursing in Chicago. Following graduation, she worked as a surgical nurse and did industrial and private nursing. She was a cadet nurse during World War II and was an example of a totally compassionate RN and person, who always thought of other people's needs rather than those of her own. She gave more of her talents and resources to anyone in need, especially to those in her family and those she deemed in need of a sympathetic ear.
She worked until her last years as a volunteer for charitable organizations and had to cut many of her family visits short to meet those obligations. She was a friend to everyone she met. When her home became too unmanageable, she was fortunate to be able to live with her surviving daughter, Nancy, son-in-law Bruce and granddaughter Jackie, who gave her the tender loving care she so richly deserved.
Unfortunately, she became suddenly ill during the end of February and was taken to the emergency department of Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. She was admitted to intensive care and subsequently expired in spite of heroic efforts by the hospital staff on March 1. Her body has been cremated per her wishes.
Other survivors are her son, Mark A. (Paula) Teller, and his children, Kylie and Corey, all of Wallingford, Pa.; her brother, Dr. William H. (Ann Marie) Johnson, and his son, Ernest M. Johnson, of Three Rivers, Mich.; and her niece, Jennifer (Robert Y.) Kehoe, and her sons, Joseph Theodore and George William, all of Plover, Wis.
Memorial services will be at 11:30 a.m. July 19, at Augustana Lutheran Church, 1133 Kilbourn St., Elkhart. Pastor Steve Reshan will officiate. Burial will follow in Grace Lawn Cemetery. There will then be a buffet luncheon at Lucchese's Restaurant, 655 C.R. 17, No. 9, Elkhart.
Memorials may go to Augustana Lutheran Church, Elkhart; the Dag Hammarsjkold and Raoul Wallenberg Memorial Scholarship Fund, Augustana College, 639 38th St., Rock Island, IL 61201; Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Mich.; or to the charity of one's choice.
