ELKHART - Dennis G. Stiver, 73, of Elkhart, died at home at 12:12 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, surrounded by his family after an extended illness.
He was born on Feb. 27, 1940, in Elkhart to Orange and Evelyn (Brubaker) Stiver, who preceded him in death. He married his high school sweetheart, Darlene (Anthony) Stiver, on June 20, 1959.
Surviving are his wife and three children, Donna (Carl) Grathwohl of Bristol, Dan (Pam) Stiver of Elkhart and David (Joy) Stiver of Indianapolis; four grandchildren, Alex, Hailey, Jarrod and Exavier; one brother, Brian (Rose) Stiver of Warsaw; and two sisters, Judy (Don) Fisher of Mount Laurel, N.J., and Barbara (Robert) Schuler of Elkhart.
Dennis graduated from Madison Township High School in 1958 and attended Purdue University. He was employed at Camelot, JF Enterprise, Paragon and retired from Decorator Industries in 2006. He was an avid sports enthusiast and especially loved Notre Dame sports, where he ushered at football games for many years. He was also a White Sox fan and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sporting events. His hobbies were playing golf, traveling and watching sports on TV. He was a Little League board member and coach for nine years at Elkhart and Concord.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service on Monday, Oct. 7, 2013, at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret-Lienhart Funeral Home, 117 W. Waterford St., Wakarusa. Pastor John Hogsett of Faith United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Olive (West) Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Faith United Methodist Church or Center for Hospice Care, Elkhart.
