Memories and Condolences

Bonnie Mandis, Fredericksburg, VA

Doug, where to start? Thank you for the many years of friendship & laughter. No matter where you came to visit us, we would always seem to run into someone who knew you. Walking through a mall or downtown streets across the country, we'd hear someone call out, "Hey Mr. Brown or Doug Brown" in Charleston, SC or Washington, DC! It was amazing! You will be so missed by all of us here. Nick & I so enjoyed our last conversation with you. You're in a Place of joy & happiness now, no pain or suffering. We'll miss you, Doug! God bless and keep you always! The Mandises & Locklears.

We came to know Doug through his Grandparents and cousins. Doug was always friendly and had a great smile to share. His love for the Lord was quite evident through his illness. Doug will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

It was a great honor to have known Doug. He always had a smile on his face when ever you saw him. He fought a great fight to live through his cancer and willing to share his love for the Lord. You will be missed!

Doug was always such a great friend to the "Pierre Moran" crew way back when (early 60's!) Heaven just gained a great guy!

I went to school with Doug, and even though he was a football player and a local star he always had a smile for me and treated me like one of the boys. He will be greatly missed at next years reunion. Rest in Peace.

My family and I were very sad to hear of your passing. We met Doug through family and have known him for a number of years, many times seeing him at sporting events - local high school & ND. He was very supportive of our son, Nick, attending many of his Jimtown HS baseball/basketball games. Fortunately my wife, Diana, had spoken with Doug recently and had the opportunity to again express our appreciation for his friendship of our family and support for Nick. May you rest in peace.

I've known Doug for many years. I have a great picture of a group of us. I had just returned from a cubs game. I ran track at westside hr high and girls basketball. We had a nick name for him that he loved. I'm 5'4" he was so tall and a powerful coach. Everyone knew Doug his nick name is"Big Bird" it was a play off Larry Bird and his tall presence. He was kind and gentle and always smiling. Everyone at Memorial HS knew Doug. He came to Hacienda & Aldies. I will miss you "Big Bird" & all your sports stories. Doug your one of the great guys I was honored to know. To your family I'm so sorry for your loss.
