OSCEOLA - John Dale Lester, 62, of Osceola, passed away Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012.

John was born Sep. 14, 1950, in South Bend to the late John Ellison and Patsy Jeanette (Harbaugh) Lester.

John graduated from Penn High School in Mishawaka and served his country honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.

Surviving are his children, Kim (Tim) Baldwin of Osceola and John (Kelly) Lester of North Liberty; and his grandchildren, Kasey Smith and Kaytlyn Baldwin and Ashley and John Lester. Surviving as well are his longtime companion, Jeannie Butrick of Edwardsburg, Mich., and her family. John is also survived by his sister, Jennifer Lester-Brown of Cassopolis, Mich.; and his brother, Jim Lester of Elkhart.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola. There will also be one hour of calling prior to the funeral service at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at St. Peter United Church of Christ, 915 N. Ironwood Drive, South Bend.

John was employed for many years as a machinist at CTS Corp. in Elkhart. He was a member of Michiana H.O.G. and enjoyed riding his Harley and watching Notre Dame football and hockey. John was also a member of the American Legion Post 308, First Christian Church of South Bend and was a longtime visitor at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in South Bend.
