Roger A. Greenawalt

NAPPANEE - Roger Allen Greenawalt, 78, of Nappanee, passed away after an extended illness at 1:47 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis.

He was born Jan. 29, 1934, in Nappanee, to Donald and Maymie (Rohrer) Greenawalt.

On July 12, 1954, he married Kathryn Thomas in Elizabethtown, Ky.

She survives along with two sons, Randy Greenawalt of Atlanta and Jeffrey (Faye) Greenawalt of Nappanee; daughters Pamela (Bryan) Balasa of Mendon, Mich., and Lori (Rick) Cox of Etna Green; grandchildren Cami (John) Glass, Zachary (Danielle) Greenawalt and Elizabeth, Benjamin and David Balasa; two great-granddaughters, Katelyn and Keira Glass; and a sister, Ruth (Rocky) Lozier of Nappanee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Rose Marie Greenawalt; and brothers Forrest and Arnold Greenawalt.

Mr. Greenawalt lived his lifetime in this area. He was a graduate of Nappanee High School. He was a farmer and a cabinet maker. He had worked in several factories: Studebakers, Mutschler Brothers, Coppes Kitchens, Excel, Creative Dimensions and Liberty Coach. In his retirement, Roger enjoyed woodworking, making model cars and decorative boxes.

Family and friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at Thompson-Lengacher and Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, and for one hour prior to the 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, funeral service at the funeral home. Officiating will be his son-in-law, the Rev. Bryan Balasa.

Burial is in Hepton Union Cemetery.

Kathryn I am so sorry for your families loss. Roger was a sweetheart of a patient. I will miss his giddy laugh and how he would call me trouble.
