LAS VEGAS - Larry Wayne Miller, 76, former long-time resident of Elkhart, Ind., passed away Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, in his home in Las Vegas following a long battle with Parkinson's and additional effects associated with the disease.
He was born March 7, 1936, in LaGrange County, Ind., and grew up in Elkhart. He graduated from Jimtown High School in 1954 and was employed as a machinist at Miles Laboratories for more than 25 years. Upon retiring from Miles, Larry owned the Bowen's Lodge fishing resort in Deer River, Minn., for five years and the Lamp Shop in Elkhart for two years after that.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vanus and Edythe Miller, and his wife, Althea Miller.
He is survived by his wife, Pam of Las Vegas; children Tim Miller of Vandalia, Mich., Terri Miller of Elkhart, Cheryl Dees of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Mike (Chelle) Miller of Wheaton, Ill.; stepdaughter Amy Pih (Danny) Gigante of Las Vegas; his brothers and sisters, Shirley Rumfelt of Edwardsburg, Mich., Peggy Basse of Elkhart, Dave (Joyce) Miller of Elkhart, Dick (Pamela) Miller of Elkhart and Ruth Ann (Tom) Shirley of Elkhart; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was an avid sports fan of Jimtown, Notre Dame, Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Bears. Whether it was playing cards, bowling, jigsaw puzzles or gardening, he led an active life.
A Celebration of Life will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola on Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, with visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. and a brief memorial service at 7 p.m.
